They heat a home with an electric heatpump while outdoor temperatures are within the range where the heat pump performs well.
When temperatures fall below that range, the system switches to a gas or oil furnace to give the homeowner the more efficient choice for every outdoor condition.
What this Arcoaire® dealer had to say about Dual Fuel:
Arcoaire dealer Dennis Russell of Russell Heating & Service in West Plains, Missouri, says 25 to 30% of the heating and cooling installations his company does are dual fuel. Most of those are in new homes for individuals using a 14 SEER heat pump and 90% or 95% gas furnace. We asked Dennis to respond to the following questions:
More Cash in your Pocket? “Yes, a dealer makes more profit on installations of multiple units and higher-end systems.”
Happy Customers? “A lot of people don’t want straight electric. This gives them a good option, plus it saves quite a bit of money on gas consumption. Our LP companies down here hate dual fuel. Our customers are very pleased with the comfort levels.”
Tech Tips? “We set our systems to change over from heat pump to gas at the standard 32° temperature. That works here. Our temperatures are moderate. We had to make a return visit for only one homeowner, who didn’t want the gas to come on. We reset his changeover down to 20°.”
